MOGADISHU, Somalia — Two huge explosions thought to be car bombs were heard at around Somalia’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Km4 area in the heart of Mogadishu on Sunday morning, police and witnesses said.
Capt. Mohamed Hassan, a senior Somali police officer told ArmedPolitics by phone that the blasts were followed by heavy gunfire that was still going on in the vicinity of CID at KM4, a busy intersection in Mogadishu that links airport to the presidential palace.
Initial reports say at least five people, including policemen were killed in the car bombings.; no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack on Somalia’s CID.
